Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin passes away at the age of 96. The Chinese flag was flown at half-mast in his mourning.
According to the Chinese News Agency, former Chinese President Jiang Zemin died of leukemia and multiple organ failure in Shanghai this afternoon (November 30).
It is pertinent to mention here that in 1989, when he succeeded Deng Xiaoping as president, China was in the early stages of economic modernization. However, when he retired as president in 2003, China was a member of the World Trade Organization.
Jiang Zemin is survived by his wife Wang Yiping and two sons.
