Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passes away at age 98

One of the most iconic actor of Asia and the legend of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar has breathed his last at the age of 98 in Mumbai, India.

According to media reports, the news has been confirmed by Dr Jalil Parkar on Wednesday, who was treating the actor at Mumbai’s PD Hinduja hospital.

A family friend, Faisal Farooqui has also posted a statement on the actor’s official Twitter account, which read, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip saab.”

The reports further stated that Dilip Kumar – who was popularly known as The Tragedy King of Bollywood – was admitted to Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital after complaining of breathlessness and it was the second time he had been hospitalised in the same month. He had been in and out of hospital over the last few years with multiple health problems ranging from a kidney ailment to pneumonia.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dilip was born on December 11, 1922 in Peshawar (now in Pakistan) as Mohammad Yousuf Khan. He started his film career in 1944 with Jawar Bhata. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Saira Banu.

People from all walks of life including political, social and cultural circles in India and Pakistan have pourd their condolences in from as they mourned the loss of the actor.
