Maulana Dilawar Hussain Saeedi – the Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh – passed away in jail today (Tuesday, August 15).
According to the media reports, the 83-year-old Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh suffered a heart attack in prison and was shifted to a hospital, where he died. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest the death in detention of Dilawar Hussain Saeedi.
It is pertinent to mention here that Maulana Dilawar Hussain Saeedi was arrested in June 2010. The war crimes tribunal sentenced him to death in 2013. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh had commuted the death sentence of Dilawar Hussain to life imprisonment.
