The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted more monsoon rains in Pakistan till August 3.
According to the media reports, the NDMA issued an advisory today (Monday, July 29) highlighting that monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal are likely to penetrate central and southern parts of the country from July 27 and likely to remain till August 3.
Furthermore, from July 28 to August 4, significant to substantial rainfall is predicted in the higher catchment areas of the nation’s western and eastern rivers. The Neelum Valley, Muzafarabad, Rawalkot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber of AJ&K, and Mardan, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Shangla, and Malakand of upper KP province are among the Northeastern regions of Punjab where flash flooding is predicted, according to the NDMA. These areas include the Deg, Basemter, and Bein nullahs of the River Ravi, as well as the Aik and Palku areas in the Chenab’s catchment.

The Jhelum River upstream of Mangla, Kabul, and its tributaries, as well as the Chenab near Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad, are predicted to have low to medium-level flow. In addition, higher flows are anticipated in the Nullahs of Zhob and low to medium-level flows in the River Indus at Tarbela and the hill torrents of the DG Khan division.
Urban flooding is anticipated in the southern regions of Sindh, which includes Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sanghar, S Benazirabad, and Karachi, as well as in the northern and northeastern regions of Punjab, which include Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Gujrat, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, and surrounding areas.
All relevant departments have received orders from the NDMA to take the required safety measures to lessen the potential consequences of floods and harsh weather. Notably, individuals are often caught off guard by the abrupt nature of flash floods. Finding a safe place away from flood-prone regions and avoiding flood waters are suggested for the population that is at danger. One foot of flowing water is enough to wash a car away, and even six inches of it may knock you off your feet. Floods can pose a threat to bridges. Refrain from crossing them if the water is moving quickly. Stay away from flimsy constructions. Seek cover in secure locations, such as government buildings, schools, or any concrete structure, in the event of heavy rain.
