President urges HEC to formulate drug policy for higher education institutions

To save young students from narcotics and provide them healthy learning environment the President Dr Arif Alvi has urged the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to formulate a drug policy for higher education institutions by March next year.

According to media reports, the President has made this statement while chairing a meeting of Committee on Drug Abuse and Welfare of Differently-abled-Students in Islamabad on Thursday. The Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood and Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari also attended the meeting.

The meeting also emphasized the need to raise awareness among youth engaging social workers, media, NGOs and civil society against drug use.

Dr Arif Alvi has asked the HEC to initiate measures for the welfare of differently-abled-students providing them waiver in tuition fees, special transportation facility within educational institutions and relaxation in age.
