The Interior Ministry has issued a notification authorizing the army to help local authorities in maintaining law and order. The announcement also authorizes the army to enforce curfews wherever required to combat anarchy. The army has been given the authority to shoot anyone who violates the law or causes damage to state facilities.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also stated that a curfew in Islamabad may be imposed if the situation warranted it. He stated that it would be “very easy” for the government to begin fire, but that we would practice restraint for now.
