The Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that unrest in Afghanistan has affected both Pakistan and Iran.
According to media reports, the Foreign Minister has made these remarks while talking to Iran’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Muhammad Ebrahim Taherian Fard, who called on him, in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the meeting, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan, from day one, has adopted the stance that there is no military solution to the Afghan issue. He expressed concerns over the growing extremism in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister has said that peace in Afghanistan is inevitable for peace and stability in the region. He said peace in Afghanistan will lead to promotion of contacts in the region, enhancement of trade activities, repatriation of Afghan refugees and the regional stability.
FM Qureshi has also appreciated the efforts of Iran for establishment of peace in Afghanistan.
