Pakistan to host Global Health Security Summit 2023 in October

Dr. Nadeem Jan – the caretaker Federal Minister for Health – said that Pakistan will host the Global Health Security Summit 2023 in October this year with the aim of devising a charter to curb the menace of emerging tendencies of pandemics.

According to the media reports, Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan made these remarks regarding the Global Health Security Summit 2023 while addressing a National Health Security Workshop in Islamabad today (Thursday, August 24).

On this occasion, the Caretaker Health Minister said that several health experts and donors will participate in the summit and will formulate a plan to prevent the disease before its invasion. He stressed the need for vaccine equity and urged rich countries to provide forty percent of vaccines to poor countries in case of the outbreak of any pandemic.

Dr. Nadeem Jan further stated that Pakistan is developing its ties with South Africa and Brazil to build its capacity of vaccine manufacturing which will enable us to effectively respond to any pandemic. He termed Global Health Security as pivotal for multifarious reasons and said it not only builds the capacity but it effectively prevents, detects, and responds to the pandemic.

The Caretaker Health Minister expressed satisfaction that Pakistan has enormous intellectual resources in the Healthcare sector but it is also facing numerous diseases such as TB, polio, diabetes, and Hepatitis. He also expressed commitment to end the circulation of poliovirus in the country by December this year.
