Sanam Javaid – the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) jailed activist – will contest elections against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz from Lahore’s provincial assembly seat.

According to the media reports, this was stated by the Father of Sanam Javaid today (Tuesday, December 19). Her father said Sanam will submit nomination papers from Lahore’s PP-150 constituency to contest general elections slated to take place on February 8 next year.

According to the father of the PTI activist, Sanam will also file candidacy papers for the women’s reserved seat, and the imprisoned activist will cast ballots on the PTI’s behalf. To submit her nomination papers, we are gathering documentation.

Maryam Nawaz, the leader of the PML-N, has not yet disclosed the constituency from which she will run for office. The parliamentary board of the PML-N has begun interviewing candidates before granting party tickets.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will begin receiving nomination papers from potential candidates tomorrow, December 20, by the vote schedule. By the Elections Act of 2017, the procedure is scheduled to start today (Tuesday) following the district returning officers and returning officers’ oaths administered by the electoral authority.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sanam is one of the many PTI leaders and employees detained about the rioting on May 9 that started when Imran Khan, the party’s then-chairman, was arrested in a fraud case. She was charged with several offenses, including attacking the Corps Commander House in Lahore and setting police cars on fire in the Cantonment neighborhood during this year’s violent riots.
