Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been sworn in as the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan today (Friday, March 01).

According to the media reports, the outgoing Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf administered the oath to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Ayaz Sadiq won the election to the office of the National Assembly by securing 199 votes.

The candidate of the Sunni Ittehad Council Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar bagged 91 votes.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq thanked the leaders and members of the PML-N, PPP, MQM, PML (Q), IPP, and Balochistan Awami Party for their faith in him after taking office. He pledged to carry out the house’s business by the norms and guidelines. The members will be given full opportunity to express their opinions on the floor of the house, he said.

The Speaker further stated that the doors of his office will always remain open to all the members. He said that the difference of opinion and criticism is the essence of democracy, stressing, however, that it should be directed towards reforms and betterment of the country.

The Speaker emphasized the necessity for developing a national consensus and a cooperative strategy to address the issues facing the nation, noting that the current political unrest is not in the country’s best interests. He declared that he would attempt to include the opposition and treasury members in this house.

Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Amir Dogar congratulated Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on his election. He declared that Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s third election is a point of distinction for him.
