Taliban today more sober and rational than last time: China desires to maintain relations

The Foreign Ministry of China has said that the Taliban today are more sober and rational than they were the last time in power. China has reiterated its willingness to respect the national sovereignty of Afghanistan and maintain relations with the Islamist group.

According to media reports, these remarks were stated by the sopkeswoman of Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying while speaking on Thursday. She that Taliban leaders have expressed their desire to solve the problems of Afghanistan. She also appreciated their commitment to building an open and inclusive Islamic government.

Spokeswoman Hua Chunying has said that China would fully respect Afghanistan’s national sovereignty, insisting that they were keen on maintaining their relationship with the Taliban as well as other factions present in the country. She suggested that the Taliban is committed to equality for all and the elimination of discrimination.

The spokeswoman further stated that China would encourage the implementation of this positive attitude. She emphasized the need for a system that allows for dialogue and consultation.

“Beijing was hopeful that Afghanistan’s new rulers could unite all parties and ethnic groups,” she added.

It is to be mentioned here that China has frequently reiterated its willingness to work with the Taliban. Both the countries are sharing a 75-kilometer long border.

Last month, the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi hosted the Taliban’s co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Beijing.
